Chetal kommt nur einmal historisch in Inden vor: ov pra chetal (1433, 1453, 1510 als chettul). Das Wort ist bei PIERREHUMBERT (1926, 119 s. v. Chédal; 121 Chétal) und schon bei BRIDEL (1866, 74 s. v. Chédal) belegt. PIERREHUMBERT leitet es von capital ab und versteht darunter u. a. Vieh und Fahrhabe des Bauern; hier wohl einfach für das Vieh als Kapital des Bauern: ‘auf der Viehwiese’.
